Checking what this device can do...
This device can't get notifications
This browser doesn't support them. Email reminders work the same way and work anywhere.
Start with the iPhone steps below
On an iPhone or iPad, notifications only work once the site is on your home screen. Follow the steps below. When you open the new icon, it comes straight back to this page with a Turn on notifications button.
Notifications are blocked
On a phone: open Settings, find Linn County Local (or your browser) in the list, and turn notifications on. The step by step for iPhone and Android shows where.
On a computer: click the small icon at the left end of the address bar (it opens "Site information") and switch Notifications on.
Then reload this page.
What do you want on your phone?
One notification around 7 pm each evening. Email reminders are separate and set up on the email reminders page.

Tap it, go to your home screen, and look for a 3 on the icon. Opening the app clears it.
Step by step
iPhone or iPad
Use Safari, the blue compass icon. This doesn't work from inside another app's browser, like Facebook's.
- Open linncountylocal.com in Safari.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. On an iPhone it's at the bottom of the screen. On an iPad it's at the top.
- Scroll down the menu and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add in the top corner. The name already says Linn County Local, so there's nothing to type.
- Open Linn County Local from your home screen, not from Safari. It comes up on this page. If you land on the home page instead, tap Get the app at the top.
- Tap Turn on notifications, then tap Allow. That's it.
Android
Use Chrome, the red, yellow, green and blue circle.
- Open linncountylocal.com in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- Tap Add to Home screen. Some phones say Install app, which does the same thing.
- Tap Add (or Install), and tap it once more if it asks you to confirm.
- Open Linn County Local from your home screen. It comes up on this page. If you land on the home page instead, tap Get the app at the top.
- Tap Turn on notifications, then tap Allow. That's it.
On a Samsung phone using the Samsung Internet browser, tap the menu at the bottom, then Add page to, then Home screen.
Computer
Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, or Safari on a Mac.
Two things both need to be on: the Notifications switch in your browser, and the Turn on notifications button on this page. If either one is off, nothing arrives.
- Open linncountylocal.com in your browser.
- Click Get the app in the bar at the top of the page, then click the big Turn on notifications button.
- Switch on the browser's Notifications. Your browser may ask whether to show notifications. If it does, click Allow. If you don't see a question, look at the left end of the address bar, the long box at the top where the web address is. Click the small icon at its left end (it opens "Site information"), and switch Notifications on.In some versions of Chrome and Edge, a bell with a line through it also shows at the right end of the address bar. Clicking it and choosing Allow does the same thing.
- Then click Turn on notifications again. This signs your computer up. It says "Saved" when both parts are done.
- To open the site faster, press Ctrl and D together (Command and D on a Mac) to bookmark it.
If it says Saved but nothing ever shows up
Your computer itself may be blocking the browser's notifications. Check this once:
On a Mac: open the Apple menu in the top left corner, then System Settings, then Notifications. Find your browser in the list (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Safari), turn on Allow Notifications, and pick Banners or Alerts. Also make sure Do Not Disturb or any Focus is off in the Control Center at the top right.
On Windows: click Start, then Settings, then System, then Notifications. Make sure the Notifications switch at the top is on. Scroll down to your browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox) and turn it on. Also make sure Do not disturb is off.
