After each step, tap Send a real test to this device on the Get the app page to see if it came through.
iPhone or iPad
- Turn off any Focus. Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open Control Center. If the Focus tile says Sleep, Do Not Disturb, or anything else, tap it to turn it off. A Focus keeps notifications from lighting up your screen or making a sound. (On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom instead.)
- Turn off Silent Mode. In Control Center, look for a bell with a line through it. That's Silent Mode. It mutes the sound and the buzz, so a notification can arrive without you noticing. Tap the bell to turn it off. No bell there? Check the small switch above the volume buttons. If you can see orange, flip it back.
- Check the switch for Linn County Local. Open Settings, tap Notifications, and scroll down to Linn County Local. Allow Notifications should be on, with Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners all checked, and Sounds on.
- Let it through a Focus (optional). To hear from us even while Sleep or another Focus is on, open Settings, tap Focus, and pick that Focus. Tap Apps under Allowed Notifications, tap Add, and choose Linn County Local.
- Not in the Notifications list at all? Then this phone was never signed up. Open Linn County Local from the icon on your home screen, not from Safari, tap Get the app at the top, then Turn on notifications and Allow. No icon yet? The steps are on the Get the app page. This needs iOS 16.4 or newer. Settings, then General, then About shows which you have.
Android
Menu names change a little from phone to phone, so look for the closest match.
- Turn off Do Not Disturb. Swipe down from the top of the screen. If Do Not Disturb, Sleep or Bedtime mode is lit up, tap it to turn it off. Also check that the volume isn't all the way down.
- Check the notification switch for the app. Press and hold the Linn County Local icon on your home screen, tap App info, then Notifications. Make sure they're on and that nothing listed there is set to Silent. If you only ever opened the site in Chrome and never added it to your home screen, do this for Chrome instead.
- Check Chrome's switch for the site. In Chrome, tap the three dots, then Settings, Site settings, and Notifications. linncountylocal.com should be under Allowed. If it's under Blocked, tap it and choose Allow.
- Turn off battery saving for it. Battery Saver and the adaptive or optimized battery settings can hold notifications back for hours. Open Settings, then Apps, then Chrome (or Linn County Local), then Battery, and choose Unrestricted. On a Samsung, also switch off Put unused apps to sleep in the Battery settings.
- Never allowed it? Open Linn County Local from the icon on your home screen, tap Get the app at the top, then Turn on notifications and Allow.
Still nothing? Email reminders skip all of this, because they go straight to your inbox.
